To the village square…

To the village square we must carry the facts of atomic energy. From there must come America’s voice.” – Albert Einstein

This quote seems to get used by the anti-nuclear crowd a lot. I’m not so sure that’s the spirit it’s intended in.

Right. The voice of a democratic society comes from the people, from all the people, from the village square.

But that voice must be informed by real knowledge, by science.

The scientists and engineers must carry the truth to the village square, and help the people reject those who come to the village peddling dramatic half-truths.

Only then can the voice of the people be most informed, sensible and spoken with confidence.
